How to organize a Beach treasure hunt?

When it comes to looking for buried treasure, kids of all ages will appreciate this game. It usually requires a little work prior to coming to the beach as you want to have a few containers full of fun stuff along with paper to write down the clues.
Wether you hide candy or offer up small gifts like coins or costume jewelry, the beach is the perfect place.

Using containers, (plastic or even small plastic bags) is perfect and you need a treasure chest too (or we use a sand pail turned upside down). The game usually is best when the containers are hidden in more of a rugged area than just sand. It’s best to stay away from the water so your treasure doesn’t get swept out to sea.

First thing you will need to do is hide your loot on the beach and write up some “clues” when you get settled. The kids will need the clues to find the small treasures bury around the area. Of course, the route is how they find the treasure. Clues need to describe where the treasure is and consider making the different elements a play on words. The players will then go on to the next clue on the hunt. Until all the little mounds of treasure are found.

Variations

If you decide to make a big treasure hunt, have the small clues lead the kids to different areas and then the final treasure. This formula doesn’t work as well for large groups as small treasures are more rewarding, but perfect for a small, family treasure hunt.
