Caterpillar race rules
Divide the children into equal-sized teams so that each caterpillar is the same length. You can form the number of caterpillars you want. If there is an additional child, they can be assigned the task of arbitrator. After each team has been trained, have the children choose a simple and easy name to remember for their caterpillar. Then line teams up next to each other behind a starting line. Then ask each group to line up with one child in front of the other. Children should place their hands on the shoulders of the team member in front of them forming a caterpillar. Once the signal is given, the front team member will hop one step forward. The team member behind them will then hop one step and so on until the whole caterpillar has advanced one step. Once the last member of the team has finished hopping, they call out the name of their caterpillar. This lets the first child know that he can jump again and the race continues. Repeat this process to move the caterpillar along. Continue until one of the tracks reaches the goal. If a team member breaks any of the above rules, it must return to the starting line and begin again.
