How to Play Duck Duck Goose

This game follows simple yet exciting rules that make it accessible to all ages.

1. Setting Up the Game

Children sit in a circle, facing inward. One player is chosen as “It” and begins walking around the outside of the circle.

2. The Chase Begins

  • As “It” walks, they gently tap each seated player on the head or shoulder, saying “Duck” with each tap.
  • At any moment, they can tap a player and say “Goose!” instead.
  • The chosen “Goose” must immediately stand up and chase “It” around the circle.

3. Switching Roles

  • If “It” manages to reach and sit in the open spot before being tagged, the “Goose” becomes the new “It” and the game continues.
  • If “It” is tagged before sitting, they must sit in the center of the circle until another player is tagged.

This fun activity is a fantastic way to encourage agility, coordination, and quick reflexes while fostering teamwork and social interaction.

Exciting Variations to Try

Want to make the game even more entertaining? Try these creative twists:

  • Action Challenge: Instead of running, players must hop, crawl, or skip around the circle when chosen as the “Goose.”
  • Themed Game: Change the words to match a party theme! Try “Pirate, Pirate, Parrot” for a pirate-themed party or “Fairy, Fairy, Unicorn” for a magical twist.
  • Double Chase: For larger groups, introduce two “It” players who can tag two “Geese” at the same time.
