How to play The body Spellers game

Here’s how to play: You will need some space and a list of words that can be spelled easily by the kids. Form two or more teams of at least four members each. Have equal players in each team. Give specific instructions on how they can spell, e.g., using only the fingers, hands, or the entire body. Give the teams a word, no longer than four letters, to spell.

One member of each team will take turns standing in front of the teams and spelling out words that the teams will have to guess. The speller is not allowed to speak or mouth the words. You’ll assign various methods that kids can use to spell the words. For example, the spellers may only be able to use their index finger, or even their feet. A point is awarded to the first team to guess the word. The teams will have to guess a 4-letter word or more depending on the age of the children. Each child will have to use their hands or their whole body to represent each letter one after the other. All the teams will have to guess which word it is by trying to decipher the letters formed by the speller. The team with the most points wins the game.

If you want to keep the game lively, set a time limit for each kid to spell their word – in under a minute or two, for example. You can also have 4 children each represent a letter by standing side by side to form the word that the teams will have to guess. Note: You might want to take a picture with your cell phone and show the groups how they looked after each word is spelled out.
